Harry Brook seems to be the favorite for the role, in particular after his withdrawal from the Indian Premier League, while the Ben Stokes test captain was also mentioned as an individual considered by Key.
Root’s name had also been suggested in certain districts as a potential short -term solution. While the 34 -year -old has not played international T20 cricket since 2019, he remains a coherent interpreter in the 50 -year cricket but has never managed the white team of England.
However, after having endured a murderous passage in charge of the test team, Root seems to have little desire to take the job.
“I did my time as a captain in a shirt in England, but I am sure that anyone when doing so will be extremely proud and will do a brilliant job,” said Root Sky Sports. “I think this ship has sailed.
“The champions trophy was disappointing. We did not play near what we are capable of. There is so much talent and so much more to come from this team.
“It is a very good opportunity to reset and move forward as a group and return to the summits which we know that we are capable and where we were in and around this phase from 2015 to 2019.”
Root led England in test cricket between 2017 and 2022, the Yorkshireman resigning after a round of a single victory in his last 17 games.
Since he won the 50 -year -old World Cup in 2019 and the T20 title in 2022 during the first buttler tournament, England had three bad projections in world tournaments. They start their summer of white ball against the Antilles in Edgbaston on May 29.
