Australian Min Woo Lee A Birdie seven of the first 14 holes by pulling one by 63 seven sous to take a lead of four strokes after the third round of the PGA Houston Open.
The 26 -year -old man from Perth finished a record for the Memorial Park course to be on 17 under 193, a 54 -hole tournament record.
“Just a solid golf course,” said Lee. “I have played really well in recent days. Keep your head down.”
Argentina, Alejandro Tosti, drew 65 to take second on 197 with Scottie Scheffler in a leading, his American colleague Ryan Gerard and Ryan Fox in New Zealand in 198.
“I learned past experiences and I obviously played with Scottie in recent years, in the final group in some tournaments,” said Lee.
Lee, with his first advance of 54 holes in a PGA event, seeks his first PGA title after three victories on the European tour.
“I hope that tomorrow is another good day,” said Lee. “A similar golf course (to win). I just have to play the tee quite stable. A trembling couple trembling at the end, but in a way gathered and made it happen. Just keeping your head lowered and a blow at a time.”
While Lee, Fox, Tosti and Gerard each look for a first triumph of PGA, Scheffler won nine titles around the world last year, including his second Masters and Gold Olympic Gold, and equaled the record for a 62 on Friday.
Scheffler was without Bogey for the week until he followed a birdie in the third by 5 with a Bogey after missing green with his approach to the fourth.
Scheffler sorted in the eighth par-5 and responded to a Bogey at 13 with a Birdie in the 16th by 5, but the 36-hole leader only succeeded 69.
“Yesterday, I put on a bunch of putts, today, I feel like I couldn’t have the ball in the hole,” said Scheffler. “I feel like I’m hitting a lot of good putts.
“There is not much that you can make it different there. Try to shoot as low as possible today and I will try to do the same thing tomorrow.”
Lee sank a six-foot stewed putt in the third par-5 and harvested 34 feet with sixth by 4 to take the lead at 12 sous.
Lee dropped his approach a few centimeters from the hole in the 5 eighth and ninth by 3 to install with noise on the two holes and sank a steep putt just inside 12 feet in the 10th for his third consecutive birdie to reach 15 sous and stretch his advance with three strokes.
The world’s number 55 Lee has Birda the par-4 12th after landing his approach inside five feet and when Scheffler did Bogey on the 13th, the Australian had a five-strokes.
Lee sank his seventh birdie in 14 holes, a seven feet at 14, and made his way to the clubhouse.
– McILroy ‘played ok’ –
The world’s number two Rory McILroy, who sneaked three of the last four holes on Friday to make the cup, pulled a 65 to reach 201 and eight strokes.
The star of Northern Ireland, who would finish a large career in a career by winning the masters next month, started in the rear nine and eliminated an eagle chip just inside 54 feet in the eighth by 5 to highlight a Tour without Bogey.
“I played OK,” said McILroy. “It was nice to go out and play decent. I certainly didn’t have anything better, but I got a decent tour and I hope another tomorrow.”
The American Davis Thompson sorted seven of the first 10 holes on his way to a 64, corresponding to his best PGA tour to stand on 200.
“It was a good day,” said Thompson. “It gives me confidence knowing that I play well. I just have to go do the same thing tomorrow, give me a lot of beautiful looks and make a few.”
