Stuart Hogg must progress in the order of the court of domestic violence, says his lawyer

Former Captain of the Rugby Union in Scotland Stuart Hogg must progress with an imposed supervision order after admitting to having abused his ex-wife for five years, a court learned.

The 32-year-old man pleaded guilty to a single accusation of domestic violence from his ex-partner, Gillian Hogg, when he appeared at Selkirk Sheriff runs in November from last year.

He admitted to scream and swear, follow his movements and send his messages which were alarming and painful by nature.

The Sheriff Peter Paterson condemned Hogg to a community recovery order with a year of supervision as an alternative to prison when he sentenced him in January, and also prohibited him from approaching or contacting Ms. Hogg for five years.

A prescription examination took place on Tuesday at Jedburgh Sheriff runs, which Hogg was apologized to participate.

His lawyer Mat Patrick declared in court: “We are just three months before the order and the examination report confirms that he is fully compliant with appointments, there was no failed meeting.

“With regard to progress, it seems that progress must be made, but it is an order of 12 months and is in the context of a fairly difficult divorce which is in progress for the moment and all the emotions which can come with it, and which has played a role.

“Obviously, there is work to do.”

Sheriff Paterson said it was “not entirely surprising” that Hogg could feel “hard by”, but it has to move on.

He said: “He was the one who pleaded guilty and he has to face the consequences of his actions and he has to go.”

The sheriff set an additional order of the order to be held on June 16.

He said: “If progress is satisfactory, he will not have to attend, but if there are difficulties that he will have to attend.”

HOGG was forbidden to approach or contact Ms. Hogg for five years in December when he appeared to Jedburgh Sheriff runs after admitting to having broken down the bailing conditions by contacting her several times, when one night she received 28 texts from him.

He was also sentenced to a fine of £ 600, with an additional compensatory suramende of £ 40.

Regarding the accusation of domestic violence, the Selkirk Sheriff Court previously heard Hogg reprimanded Ms. Hogg to “not be fun” after having started drinking her colleagues, and sent more than 200 text messages in the space of a few hours.

He was to be tried at the same court in November, but pleaded guilty that day to an accusation of domestic violence between 2019 and 2024 in places such as Hawick on Scottish borders.

During the hearing in November, Prosecutor Drew Long said that the couple had moved to Exeter in 2019 with their three young children, all under three years of age, but the “Hogg behavior deteriorated by partying.

Mr. Long said that Hogg “would cry and swear and accuse Ms. Hogg of not being fun” so as not to join a drink, and that his family “noticed a change in it”.

In 2022, Ms. Hogg had an evening and was bombed with SMS from her husband who “drew the attention of the people with whom she was,” said the court.

The following year, the couple moved to Hawick on the borders, but Hogg used an application to follow his wife and “asked him where” she was deposited, “said the court.

In 2023, Ms. Hogg decided to leave the rugby player and asked a service of domestic violence.

The court learned that in September 2023, Hogg sent so many messages that he led Ms. Hogg to have a panic attack.

On February 21 of last year, the police were called because of Hogg “screaming and swearing” and it was placed in police custody and then placed on a deposit prescription stipulating not to contact Ms. Hogg, or to enter the family home.

Hogg retired from professional rugby in July 2023, but last summer it was announced that he was coming back after having signed Montpellier on a two -year contract.

The former Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs player was appointed MBE for sport services in the New Year’s New Year list.
