Three late birdies moved Rory McILroy inside the cutting line while Scottie Scheffler equaled the course record to take the lead in Texas Children’s Houston Open.
McILroy was outside the cup before three successive birdies from 16 raised it four in a day disturbed by thunderstorms.
After a round interrupted by a two -hour stop, McILroy finished with a 66 while the game in the second round was canceled for the day while the darkness fell.
This leaves him seven of the rhythm established by the world number one of Scheffler, who pulled a 62 eight under the mass to lead by one of Taylor Pendrith Canadian and Colombian Nico Echavarria.
“I put on a few putts,” said McILroy. “That was it. It was nice to see some putts enter and end.
“It was a bit risky there at the end. Radio to finish the tour like me. “
The world number one Scheffler has produced its best round since returning from an injury in hand suffered during cooking at Christmas when it is preparing to defend its title of Masters American.
Playing before the worst of the weather at Memorial Park, Scheffler opened with two birdies and missed a single green in regulations when he added six additional birdies and completed 36 holes without Bogey.
“It was important for me to stay patient there,” said Scheffler. “It was nice to take a good start and keep the momentum and keep the card clean.”
Echavarria was nine sub-valves for its round when the game ended with it on the 17th and facing a chip on the edge of the green to save the peer, after driving in the water.
The Australian Min Woo Lee and Ryan Gerard were a further shot on nine sub-valves with the work to be done to finish their second laps.
The English duo Danny Willett and Matt Wallace were one of those waiting for the completion of the third round on Saturday to see if they would play the weekend.
They were in the clubhouse on two sub-values, a blow outside the current cup line.
