The readjusted objectives of the city for the rest of the season are now to ensure qualification in the Champions League and win the FA Cup. They then have the additional challenge of the Club World Cup during the summer.
However, even if they succeed with these remaining objectives, Guardiola believes that this would not mask the global disappointment he feels from last year.
“Of course, it would be good to arrive in the FA Cup final and win it, and to qualify for the Champions League,” said Guardiola, whose team goes to Bournemouth in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
“It would be a great success, but the season was bad and it will not change.
“Our standards and many things were not good, it is reality. This will not change for the fact that we win a title or we qualify for the Champions League.
“We will be happy, of course. We want to do it but the season has not been good.”
