Senior Deputy Coach of England, Richard Wigglesworth, seems to be part of the team of coaches of the British and Irish Lions of Andy Farrell in Australia this summer.

Wigglesworth is expected to be confirmed as an assistant when Farrell reveals the full Lions staff, likely to be dominated by Irish coaches on Wednesday.

The former half of melee supervised the attack on England since his conclusion of his playing career in the summer of 2023, the party producing a solid performance of 10 series in their last match of the Six Nations against the Wales.

England boss Steve Barthwick said after this match that he had no Farrell contact about one of his workers’ coach employees, but the Lions coach seems ready to include Wigglesworth in an assistant role.

Simon Easterby, who replaced Farrell as an acting trainer Irlande in the six nations, also seems to be one of the staff in Australia, with Scrum coach John Fogarty another name in the context.

Head of force and packaging Aled Walters – who left England for Ireland last summer – and David Nucifora, director of performance, has already been confirmed to Farrell staff.

Barthwick was an assistant alongside Farrell in 2017 and spoke at the end of the six nations of his desire for his coaches to have the chance to have a taste of the Lions experience.

“I would like them to have the opportunity,” said the head coach of England. “I would love as many management teams as possible.

“I developed and learned so much as a coach during this period, it was great for me and accelerated my coaching, so I would like many other people from the England group to be there as possible, and I will be fully favorable to everyone.”

Farrell had just moved into the Saracens coaches staff when Wigglesworth joined the London club in 2010 and led him as a player for the club and the country.

The absence of Wigglesworth would leave England needing a new attack coach for the summer tour in Argentina and the United States. Bath’s Lee Blackett and Sam Vest of Northampton are very well rated within the Prime Minister and worked with England “A” in the past year.
